We grew up in the same South Yorkshire village and have been keen anglers since childhood, fishing the Harthill reservoir together targeting all species and competing in junior matches. During the 80’s and early 90’s I moved to work abroad whilst Lee carried on targeting the carp in our local village reservoirs, catching the 2 biggest carp in the venue by stalking them with a few grains of sweet corn.
In 2010 our enthusiasm for competition fishing was fired up after watching the British Carp Angling Championships on Sky Sports. We entered the event the following year in 2011 finishing 2nd in the qualifier at Cuttle Mill, finishing 18th overall in the final out of nearly 400 anglers which was a geat result in our first competition. We had really caught the match fishing bug and importantly realised that our different styles actually complemented each other very well, Lee having the Old School approach and my own modern day carping methods. We reached the semi-finals and finals in just about every match we entered, the highlight so far being a 2nd place podium in the Northern Carp Masters.
We have been backed by various companies during our match fishing journey including Gardner Tackle, CC Moore & Premier Baits. In late 2014 we were given the chance to join the Big Carp UK team which we grabbed without a seconds thought.
In our first match after joining the team we smashed our qualifier at Barston Lake with over 800lb of fish in a 48 hour match, using the Fruit Bomb Salmon boilie range. This bait is without doubt the best we have ever used and John Baker’s connection with Big Carp bait firmly reinforced our decision to move away from our previous bait supplier and join the team. Added to this, the fast turnaround time and bait freshness the company provides gives us a massive edge come match day, we feel privileged to be using what we consider to be best bait in the UK.
Hopefully see you on the bank.
